Problem: Customer has upgraded to Outlook 2003 and the desktop icon has disappeared.

Solution: Outlook 2003 does not create a desktop icon in order to be Windows XP certified. To access the properties dialog you can either right click on the icon within the start menu or open the Mail icon within the Control Panel.

If don't just want a shortcut but an email properties icon like prevous versions, it can be recreated by adding the following key to the registry.

1. Open the Registry Editor. Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace

2. Click Edit | Add Key and add the following key: {00020D75-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

3. Set the Default Value of this key to be: 3

4. Quit the Registry Editor. Refresh the desktop to see the restored icon. You may need to log off windows and log back on to see the icon.
